Song Jury Summons

June 2009

Artists with Songs in the Deliberation Room

  • Phil Mead’s songs have had several prior convictions and he has yet another tune on the docket.
  • SKI presents several pieces of instrumental evidence with some convicting grooves.
  • Pauline Moraga has a song from her new album awaiting a verdict.

Thanks to all of you who voted for Laura Lange’s tune, ‘Yours’. It was one of the speediest song trials in the history of this site. Her tune made it through and is available for download on the public side of songjury.com. It is you who makes the system work.

Crossover Songwriter Showcase at

Jia Tella's Cambodian Food Restaurant

(click here if you're interested in playing at Jia Tella's)

It was a busy night at Jia Tella's in Scotts Valley on the evening of 9-29-07. This Showcase featured 3 acts playing their original tunes: Pauline Moraga, Jared Fujishin and the band, Karsonic. All of them did well as evidenced by the response of the audience and the feedback we tabulated on the song rating forms. The artists provided a good spectrum of musical styles.

Pauline did 3 folk rock tunes that worked well with Todd Brown on percussion and Lee Kalem on lead guitar. She did 3 songs that were well received. Lee and Todd also backed up Jared, a very talented 15 year old singer-songwriter who writes in an alternative pop style. He did 2 originals for the crowd. Everyone was quite impressed, particularly when we all found out his age.

Karsonic, headed up by Karson Swedberg, set up their gear and rocked the house with 5 original songs. They were only going to do 4 tunes, but the audience wouldn't let them off the stage without an encore. They happily obliged and an incident of civil unrest was averted.

Lee Kalem was the featured lead guitarist for the improv blues band that opened and closed the show. He sounds like he should have been on a Steely Dan album. Dan Green graced us with his bass playing in the first set and members of Karsonic helped out with the closing jam.

Special thanks goes out to Jason and Theresa Revino, the owners of Jia Tella's, and the staff of the restuarant. Thanks for letting us play at your place and the food was great, as always.

Sojourners Songwriter Showcase 7-21-2007

Sojourners Songwriter Showcase is an interactive event featuring local songwriters Paul Trugman, Paul and Laura Sampson with Sara Butterfield and Rachel Albrecht performing their original music. The interactive part of the event consisted of the audience being given score cards to judge the artist’s songs and provide comments. These score cards were collected and will be averaged to come up with a score per song. It was a fun evening and the overall quality of the artists' offerings were great. The artist will have the opportunity to distribute their songs that qualify through www.crossoversoundwaves.com. This event was based on the format of this website, where songs must pass through our web-based Song Jury found on the site with at least a 70% approval rating in order to be made available for Internet distribution by means of download. This event was also an ‘Open House’ for this new website and our related charitable 501c3 nonprofit called Crossover Sound Waves Inc. The relationship between the company and the organization is that a portion of the proceeds of the downloaded songs from this site will be donated to this nonprofit. People attending the Showcase also donated money to help with this effort. The money will go to fund micro grants to families in financial distress to help them access or sustain housing. Services to families in Santa Cruz County are brokered through Love INC of Santa Cruz County, a clearinghouse helpline charitable organization dedicated to meeting the needs of Santa Cruz County residents through community resources and resources from the churches of Santa Cruz County.

Sojourners Church, which meets at the Scotts Valley Community Center on Sunday mornings, sponsored this Songwriters Showcase.
